Redback customers now have more opportunities to save on their electricity bills thanks to an exciting collaboration.

Redback Technologies is excited to announce compatibility with Amber Electric’s SmartShift, allowing current and future Redback customers to access wholesale energy prices.

With Amber’s SmartShift, Redback customers can automate and optimise their batteries to charge when prices are low – or even negative – and export to the grid when prices are highest.

It is through partnerships like this that Redback is able to help homeowners take control of their energy usage and combat cost of living pressures through lower power bills.

The integration with Amber’s SmartShift follows a 4-week Beta trial which included over 20 Redback customers who provided overwhelmingly positive feedback.

During the Beta trial period, Redback’s trial customers were able to take advantage of Amber’s variable wholesale pricing.

Machine learning that looks at a household’s solar generation and energy usage was utilised, which predicted optimal battery charge and discharge times for the best financial outcomes.

Today, Redback’s integration with Smartshift has now moved beyond the Beta trial and is available for all Redback customers.

Chris Abberley, a member of the Redback/Amber Beta trial group, said he was thrilled with the results of the Beta trial:

“I’m thrilled to say that Amber Energy’s SmartShift control worked flawlessly. I credit this to the advanced technology Redback Technologies has developed, ensuring a robust and responsive integration with Amber.”

Paul Hillman, Director of Software at Redback Technologies said he is excited to see Redback customers benefit from the integration:

“Redback is proud to work with Amber to provide our customers with access to Amber’s wholesale electricity prices. With Amber’s SmartShift, Redback customers can minimise their electricity bills and reliance on coal-generated electricity, and potentially maximise their return on investment on their battery system. We’re thrilled at the success of the Beta trial and are greatly looking forward to continued collaboration with the Amber team, and great results for our customers.”

Tim Barson, Partnerships Manager at Amber said Amber is excited to add Redback to their list of SmartShift-compatible batteries:

“It’s great to be partnered with a fellow Australian-born business, working to shift Australia to 100% renewable energy. Redback’s battery is technologically advanced and backed by local support. We look forward to helping more Redback customers take charge of their energy.”

Myles Eftos, Staff Engineer and Evangelist at Amber added:

“The quality and attention from the Redback technical team has made this one of the most straightforward, and high-quality integrations we’ve done. This means our Redback customers will get the full benefit of Amber’s wholesale electricity pricing.”

Amber SmartShift is available for all Redback’ second generation and higher systems installed since 2017.

Redback’s next-generation Hybrid Battery System, due to be released at the end of 2024, will also be compatible with Amber SmartShift; as will future new Redback battery systems.
